Rose Colored Glasses or Leashes?~grins

Recently I was discussing various aspects of the lifestyle with some friends and the topic of acceptance came up. It was mentioned that some submissives head into relationships with rose colored glasses, convinced that love will conquer all. After the newness wears off you realize that this Dominant you love is flirting with other submissives or suddenly back to working on projects that seem to exclude you, well yes He DID mention this before but surely that’s all changed now hasn’t it? Then the tears and heartache because you did not get your way, sound familiar?

Most people have made this sort of mistake at some point in their life. Not accepting a person or situation as it is. And it almost always ends with being hurt. When you make a commitment like accepting a collar you are taking on all of that person’s values and beliefs. As a submissive you are yielding to these and saying that you accept them. Do things in a relationship change? Of course they do and with communication and trust built up from the beginning these changes can be overcome.

While this is mentioned over and over in classes and discussions, I truly can’t emphasize enough taking your time to really know one another before the collar. Making sure expectations and protocols are clear. No one can plan for every contingency and life has a way of changing the best of plans. We can love and support one another through those changes, accept people for who they are and what their life is like. Do we have to like it? No not really and we may miss “The Good Ole’ Days” But it is imperative that we realize that acceptance is key to being truly happy.

  2. Good comments, Nadeen. The truest love is to see the beloved accurately, and to choose that person as they are. And that is even more important with power exchange.

  3. Very well said Nadeen. I don't think that people realize this until they are seeing exactly this.

  5. I think in one point in time we have all made this mistake but if you truelly love your Master then you will relize even tho things change he or she still loves you. In all relationships there is a honey moon faze and after time that does die down but just because things are different doesnt mean that the love isnt there, but thats just how I feel. Very well said nadeen I really appreciate this post.
